Weekly News – Friday 3rd May

Message from the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

I am delighted to welcome to school 4 new pupils this week: Ziva in Year 2; Jaydon and Jovan in Year 4 and Freddy to Year 7. We hope they will be very happy here.

This week, the Year 11 have had some of the ‘real things’ in their Language examinations. Study leave for Year 11 begins on Friday 10th May with the bulk of the GCSE exams starting on Monday 13th May. Let’s hope all can keep calm, positive and working hard. The bonus is the expanse of summer holidays when it’s all over! Good luck to all.

On Thursday, we were delighted to open the Art Room for the Art Preview Evening. This was a fabulous opportunity to see the final pieces, displays and portfolios of Year 11 artists. What prodigious talent we have in Art!

Thursday also saw the continuation of our Most Able project in conjunction with Trent University and Nottingham City Council. This is a stunning programme of activities and we are delighted to be able to make the offer of this unique experience to some of our pupils.

Next week, the Girls’ Football Team is travelling to York to compete in the ISA competition. We did really well last year – let’s see if we can get a few more in the net and move forwards in the competition this year…

Wednesday is our last Open Day of the academic year. We are full on the 2.00pm tours but still have space for visitors to attend the 9.30am tours if you know anyone who might like to look around our fabulous school.

Thursday and Friday evening next week at 7.00pm, school will present our summer production ‘We Will Rock You’. Tickets cost £5 (£4 for concessions – under 16s, students and over 60s). The order form can be found here. I can’t wait!

Some bits of news:

Senior School Uniform
I am happy for boys in Senior School to wear formal knee length grey summer shorts as an alternative to their trousers when the weather is hotter in the SUMMER TERM.  Also, if they can be sourced, I would also permit boys to wear a short sleeved white cotton shirt with a pressed open collar without the school tie (not just an unbuttoned formal shirt. ) These items are not stocked by the uniform supplier.

Parent Questionnaire
The deadline for submission of parent questionnaires is Monday 6th May. Thank you to all those who have made a speedy return. Click here to complete the survey.

Have a lovely long weekend and see you on Tuesday.

Dear Parents,

This week, we were welcomed 3 new children into Junior School. Ziva joined Year 2 and Jaydon and Jovan, Year 4.  They have made friends and already settled in well; we hope they will continue to be very happy here.

Class photographs should be making their way home to you. Please find all details on how to order enclosed within the pack.

Years 1 to 6 thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the National Justice Museum yesterday. This included a visit to the courtroom. The younger children learnt about why someone may go to court and the jobs of the judge and jury. Miss Wilson was particularly impressed with some of the answers children gave when questioned in the dock. The children had the opportunity to also see the Youth Court, look at police uniforms from today and the past and learn about Elizabeth Fry. They were fascinated to hear that she was the first lady ever to talk in Parliament and campaigned for children to get an education. Many thanks to parents who came along to help; we really appreciate your support.

We wish our Junior choir all the best as they compete at the Derby Arts Festival this morning. We look forward to hearing the results but I am sure their performances will be brilliant.

On Wednesday, we are holding our final Open Day of the academic year.  If you have friends who may be interested in applying for a place next year, please ask them to contact Mrs Wilkins to book a place on a tour (

Key Stage 2 will have the opportunity to watch the Senior School’s production of ‘We Will Rock You’ next Thursday afternoon. Some of our Year 6 pupils are also involved in this and we are very much looking forward to seeing the performance.

Next Friday, we will be hosting a tennis roadshow and all children from Reception to Year 6 will participate in workshops learning tennis skills. Please make sure all children have trainers or plimsolls in school for this.

If you are still looking to purchase a summer dress, or may require one next summer, Schoolwear Solutions have now reduced all sizes of our bespoke dress to £14.99 whilst stocks last.

Finally, congratulations to Charlotte in Year 4 for winning the Short Story Writing Club competition; she will receive a £10 book token kindly donated by FOH.

Have a lovely long weekend. I don’t think the weather will be quite as good as the last Bank Holiday but I am sure we will all enjoy the extra day regardless.
