Message from the Headmistress
As we come to the end of another week in school, we notice the weather being more changeable – colder, wetter, windier and darker. Please can you ensure your children have appropriate coats for the season. Seniors should be in plain black sensible coats; rain repellent and hooded are ideal. Reflective stripes may not be fashionable but they do increase pupil visibility if they walk home or to a bus stop.
This week has seen some senior girls attend a seminar at the Girls’ High School organised by the National Council for Young Women. This was a great multi-generational meeting aimed at introducing all present to topical issues and encouraging collaborations.
On Thursday, the Year 9 History curriculum was supported by a visit to the Holocaust Museum near Newark. A very thought-provoking trip for all.
After school today, I will host our first Parents’ Forum meeting of the academic year. The forum comprises representative parents from throughout the school and new members are most welcome. Please let Lucy Wilkins know if you are coming along at firstname.lastname@example.org,uk. Any parent may submit agenda items to be discussed and minutes are available in the parents area of the website. It is an open discursive group seeking to share ideas about the school. On my agenda for discussion are: school strategy; discretionary screen time; parent information; the gender neutral uniform debate; updates on uniform; and feedback on the new app. We meet from 4.00pm in my office. The cut off time is 5.30pm though we usually aspire to finish before this time.
I have received a recommendation from a parent of THE ACTING STUDIO which provides intermediate and advanced drama workshops for young people especially those considering a career in theatre or aspiring to attend drama school. The class is based at The Dance Studios Nottingham. Email for further information at email@example.com
Can I remind parents, especially parents of new pupils to the school, that I am now welcoming donations for the Friends’ of Hollygirt Christmas hamper raffle; any items loosely on a Christmassy theme. The collection point is in my office but please leave at reception.
Next week we continue our preparations towards Christmas and concurrently begin our option choice process for our Year 9 pupils. Parents should all have received home the options booklet and an invite to the starter event: the options afternoon at 2.00pm on Thursday 6th December.
Don’t forget there is no school on FRIDAY 7th DECEMBER as it is our annual Prize Giving Holiday.
Have a great weekend.
Message from the Head of Juniors
Today, Years 1 and 2 are visiting the Broadmarsh and Victoria Centres to view the decorations that some of the children created earlier in the term. They will also have the opportunity to visit the grotto and play in the ball pit. Sounds like great fun!
Next week, we will begin to have more rehearsals for the Christmas production. Thank you for your support so far in helping the children learn their lines and putting together costumes; it is much appreciated.
You should have received a summary sheet of December events. As you can see, there are loads of Christmas activities to look forward to and it is a very exciting time in School. Please check this list regularly to remind yourselves of events and changes to the School day. Again, please note that school is closed next Friday 7th for our annual Prize Giving holiday.
Have a lovely weekend.
