Message from the Headmistress
What a busy week! We had over 30 children attend our Year 5 taster day on Monday. These are children looking to enter the Senior School in Year 7 in 2020. All the children had a Science lesson (made an exploding rocket), a Food lesson (where they made some very eclectic flavours of scone), History, Spanish, Art and Geography. They even recorded ‘Uptown Funk’ in their introductory music session. What a day. They left buzzing!
On Tuesday, nearly all of the staff in Senior School attended the Year 11 Prom at Bestwood Lodge Hotel. It was brilliant to see our leavers so grown up and clearly enjoying themselves as a whole year group together. They looked magnificent. Not sure about the staff dancing though…
On Thursday, the senior pupils participated in their marathon Sports Day down at Highfields. And it didn’t rain! Well done to all for having a go – and running hard. We will be having the presentation awards in assembly next week.
Tonight there will be a brief Parents’ Forum meeting at 4.00pm followed by the Friends of Hollygirt AGM at 4.30pm in my office. New members to either/both groups are welcome.
On Saturday, the Duke of Edinburgh group will be on their practice expedition in the peak district and the Junior School will open 11.00am till 1.00pm for their Garden party on the hottest day of the year so far – Saturday!
Next week, our most able pupils are off site continuing their awesome architecture project. Thursday sees our 2019 entrants join us in school for their ‘flying up day’.
Have a lovely sunny weekend.
Message from the Head of Juniors
Finally the rain seems to have stopped and we have some sunshine! Please could I remind you that children need sun cream and hats whilst the weather lasts.
On Wednesday, Elliot and Gaby attended the Primary Parliament event at The Council House; they presented a drama piece on ‘Friendship Survival Guide’ to others and had an enjoyable day. Thank you to Mrs Bond for accompanying them.
Yesterday, we had a great afternoon ice skating yesterday with Key Stage Two and some of the progress made during the session was fantastic!
Next week is, unbelievably, our last full week of the academic year. On Monday, it is our EYFS and Year 1 Prize Giving where we celebrate the achievements of the children over the year. Following this, we will have our Nursery and Reception Sports Day in the garden. Refreshments will be provided.
Wednesday is a very busy day, beginning with our Year 6 leavers’ assembly. This will be held in the Senior School hall and begin at 9.00am. Parents of Year 6 are very welcome to attend and can arrive anytime form 8.45am. Following this will be the election for the new Junior Head Girl or Boy and their Deputy. Our current Year 5 children will be giving speeches to the rest of the juniors who will then vote. On Wednesday afternoon, the children will ‘fly up’ into their new classes and spend some time with their new teacher, finding out a little more about next year; I know they are all very excited about this.
Thank you so much for all of your donations so far for the Garden Party; we, as ever, really appreciate all the support. I look forward to seeing you all there tomorrow. The event begins at 11 although children running stalls need to be there a bit earlier.
Have a lovely weekend.
