Weekly News – Friday 26th January

Message from the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

It has been a calm week in Senior School.

Year 9 pupils and their parents have had their Options Afternoon where staff introduced their subjects options for Year 10. We have reverted back to giving the children a full choice to see if we can make a pattern that fits their wishes. We always run a traditionally academic pathway but set against this other choices to broaden the offering and to ensure that there is something for everyone. We have some new choices on to trial this year including GCSE PE! It would be great to get this off the ground. We are also offering a combination life skills option which includes the fabulous Jamie Oliver endorsed cookery course. Additionally, I am able now to offer GCSE Drama as an extra-curricular choice too.

Can I inform parents of our new school bank account number:
Lloyds Sort Code: 30-96-18 Account Number: 62101368.

This will be printed on any invoices being received from now onwards. If you pay us by BACS transfer, it might be worth setting up a new with the new account number.

Following a polite discussion with a neighbour, we request the promotion of CLEAN AIR to parents by asking them to switch off their car engines whilst waiting for their children on Villa Road and Cranmer Street. Pollution is impacted hugely by the fumes from idling engines and in teaching our children about their impact on the environment, we hope we can reach out to parents, too.

In case you missed previous messages, we have two current vacancies in the Senior School for Easter 2018. We are looking for an ICT Teacher and a Spanish Teacher. Should you know anyone who might be interested, please direct them to the jobs section of our website where you will find the relevant information packs.

Next week in Senior School, on Monday, Year 8 pupils will have their Conference Day, with our external practitioner Mr Appleyard teaching the children about a variety of topics on our PSHE programme. On Tuesday, there will be a meeting for the parents of those going skiing, this is at 5.00pm in the Senior School hall. On Wednesday, it is the Year 9 Parents’ Evening. I hope you all have appointments booked.

On Thursday, selected children will take part in the National Maths Challenge competition.

On Friday, there is a meeting of the parents’ forum at 4.00pm in my office. Please submit any agenda items to Lucywilkins@hollygirt.notts.sch.uk  by Wednesday. New members are always welcome.

Next week we move into February – how delighted am I!

Have a lovely weekend.

Dear Parents,

The juniors have been busy thinking about the charities they would like to support for the rest of the year. Working in houses, they have come up with some great ideas and charities close to their heart. Details will follow.

There will be a parents information evening for the forthcoming ski trip on Tuesday 30th January at 5.00pm in the Senior School hall. Mr Goodhead will lead this meeting and answer all the questions you may have.

Years 5 and 6 are currently enjoying their DARE lessons learning how to make informed choices. This is always such a successful programme equipping the children to face challenges they may encounter as they get older.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Wright
Head of Juniors
