Message from the Head
Dear Parents,
Another busy week!
We kicked off the week with a wonderful Maths assembly – thank you Mr Rollinson. The link is here.
Thank you to Jay Sandhu for being our resident poet on Tuesday celebrating World Poetry Day 2023. Jay met the whole Senior School and our students enjoyed poetry and rap sessions – thanks Jay.
We loved welcoming back our Years 10s this week with tales of Work Experience and we plan to gather together and celebrate all of the experiences soon, possibly in an assembly. Year 10 prefect applications and Head Student applications have started to come in and we will interview at the beginning of next term now. A slight delay but given the busyness – mocks then work experience, I need to give the students a bit more time.
Some great successes in football this week in the seniors – here is a report from Mr Dean.
A fantastic day out at the U13 Boys ISA Midlands Football tournament in Stafford.
Tettenhall College B 0 Hollygirt 0
Hollygirt 0 Priory Birmingham 1
Hollygirt 1 Loughborough 0
St Doms Priory 2 Hollygirt 2
Hollygirt 1 Pitsford 1
Stafford Grammar 1 Hollygirt 0
Goal scorers Natnaieal 2, Ruben 1, Mosesiah 1
Finishing 3rd in group 1 we qualified for the 5th/6th playoff. A tight game against Tettenhall College A saw us lose 3-2 on penalties. An incredible effort to finish sixth from thirteen teams, for a team of nine Year 7 students and one Year 8 student playing in an under 13 tournament. Well done Hollygirt!
Year 8 reports are sitting on my desk wending their way home today – they are a super read – a fabulous set of reports; well done Year 8!
Today sees the Prep and Senior Science Fairs and my thanks to Mr Firth for organising this amazing innovative spectacle. The collaboration, innovation and teamwork has really impressed us all!
Today was also the Eco-Committee Assembly and we have announced the demise of the plastic water bottle from Easter. We will put more water fountains in and have a few spare usable bottles but please encourage your children to bring their own. We also raised money for Friends of the Earth with a non-uniform day in Seniors today. We are trying to do our bit.
Congratulations to Rufford who have won this term’s house points (courtesy, manners and helpfulness) – they are off to Laser Tag next Wednesday afternoon after the Whole School photo (shiny students in correct school uniform please).
Next Thursday, our last day of term, is non-uniform for the Whole School as we try to raise money for the Year 11 Prom and the charity ‘Young Minds’. £2 contribution please and we’re going half and half. We break up at normal time of 3.30pm in Prep and 3.45pm in Seniors and come back on Tuesday 18th April (staff are in on 17th!). Don’t forget Open Morning that first Saturday back – 22nd April.
Next week I will share the Trustees’ five-year strategy for Hollygirt with you so you can see for yourselves the journey Hollygirt is on. It’s an inspiring read.
Have a good weekend,

Message from the Head of Prep
Good afternoon,
I have to begin with this morning’s Science Fair. It was just amazing. The children did incredibly well and we are so proud of them. Really interesting ideas, posters and projects which were presented in such creative ways. The children enjoyed explaining their experiments and findings. They spoke so confidently to other pupils, parents and staff. Thank you for joining us – I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you to all pupils, parents and staff for supporting this project and event.
On Wednesday, Mrs Keyworth and Mrs Mason took a team of Year 4–6 children to compete in a Netball tournament hosted by NGHS. The event was managed by Year 10 Sports Leaders who spent part of the morning coaching the team in the finer points of netball. Despite being new to the game, our squad thoroughly enjoyed the tournament, competing against other schools. Overall, Hollygirt scored 10 goals. Thanks to their 4 wins and a draw, they were placed top of the group and were delighted to be presented with their winners’ trophy and medals! Well done to all the goal scorers – it was a fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to Clumber who have gained the most house points this term. Mrs Wand will be communicating with you about house treats for Clumber.
A reminder that you can book appointments with our uniform suppliers on Tuesday next week. This will be an opportunity to order the new summer dress which can be worn after Easter. The alternative blazer will also be available to look at and order and in addition, if you have any other uniform requests, please feel free to make an appointment using this link: https://schoolwearsolutions.simplybook.it/v2/#book/service/24
On Wednesday, we will having a whole school photograph. Please make sure children are in correct uniform for this.
Thursday is the last day of term and this will be a non-uniform day. We are asking children to bring in £2 which will go to Young Minds and also to support the Year 11 Prom. The afternoon will end with the Spring Concert. There will be no extra-curricular clubs on this day but After School Club will run as usual.
Have a lovely weekend,
Victoria Wright
