Weekly News – Friday 21st June

Message from the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

This week has ended quietly. Our GCSE exams are all completed and we look forward to seeing the leavers in their beautiful clothes and dapper evening dress at the Prom on Tuesday night! From Wednesday, pupils in Year 10 were almost all away in Dorset with Mrs Howlett and Mr Dean on the GCSE Geography field trip studying the beautiful cliffs and geographical features of coastal erosion around Swanage. I am sure the sun is shining now… let’s hope so.

We are looking forward to welcoming the Year 5 and many prospective pupils for our September 2020 intake at the Senior School Taster Day on Monday. This event is full but if you know people thinking about their options for Senior School who are not booked on, there will be other opportunities for them to spend time in school in the Autumn Term.

Next week, there is something exciting going on for every year group in Senior School. On Tuesday, pupils in Year 9 are looking forward to a drama workshop at Nottingham Playhouse. This is given to our pupils for free as part of our support and sponsorship of the Playhouse. On Thursday, it is the Senior School Sports Day in the morning. Parents are welcome to come in support. On Friday, Year 7 and 8 are away in Skegness for a fun day where pupils will study coastal ecosystems and visit the Sea Life Centre.

Also next week, the Parents’ Forum will run for a short meeting on Friday night 4.00pm to 4.30pm. Agenda items to Lucy please (LucyWilkins@hollygirt.notts.sch.uk). This will be followed immediately by the friends of Hollygirt AGM, 4.30pm to 5.00pm where refreshments will be served. All parents are members and are entitled to vote on our officers and new attendees are more than welcome – let us know if you are coming.

The current runner of the Second Hand Uniform Shop, Jodie Filshie, is looking for some helping hands at the New Parent Meeting on Wednesday 3rd  and Thursday 4th July from 2.00pm – 3.30pm. If you can help out, please get in touch with Jodie at jodie.filshie@gmail.com.

I have had some further requests from girls about having a trouser option in school. Whilst there could be occasions where we give special dispensation to individuals to wear trousers, there will be no change to our policy for this September. It is only two years since the last full consultation but to follow up the school forum requests will be looking at the issue again, in detail in the Autumn Term. Parents will be given a say too…

You will have received raffle tickets for the Garden Party next Saturday. Please ensure you return sold stubs and cash and any unsold tickets to reception by Friday at the latest. You never know – it could be you…you’ve got to be in it to win it as they say!

Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents,

This week, we have welcomed Harrison into Year 3. We hope he has enjoyed his first few days at Hollygirt and will settle in quickly.

Earlier this week, our Year 5 and 6 boys played a football match against Dixie Grammar School. They won with an impressive score of 14-1! Amazing effort boys!

On Wednesday, Phil from Severn Trent Water came to work with the junior children. All children listened to an assembly and then, Years 1 and 2 joined in with the ‘Sewer Soup’ workshop.  KS2 played games looking at ways for families to save water. This certainly gave us some food for thought.

Today is Wacky Hair Day and there are some interesting hair styles plus a great collection of bottles and sweets – thank you for these! The best efforts in each class will be rewarded with tokens for the bouncy castle at the Garden Party. This event is now only just over a week away. Thank you so much for your donations so far. We do still need some raffle prizes, chocolate and prizes for tombolas. We are looking forward to seeing your homemade cakes on the day!

On Monday, Year 5 have their Taster Day in the Senior School with opportunities to meet other children who are looking to join us in Year 7. Children in Years 1 to 6 will be participating in ‘Going for Gold’ in their Tuesday afternoon Games session. On Wednesday, some of our Year 5 and 6 children will be involved in a Primary Parliament day and on Thursday afternoon, KS2 will be going ice skating. Another busy week and as mentioned above, leading up to the Garden Party on Saturday 29th.

Have a lovely weekend with hopefully some sunshine!
