Weekly News – Friday 18th May

Message from the Headmistress

Dear Parents,

It is indeed a rare treat for me to get to write the Weekly news in place of Mrs Hutley.

Our Headmistress is off sunning herself at Conference while the rest of us are working hard. Talking about hard work, well done to our Year 11 pupils who have pushed themselves through the first week of exams. I am hearing mainly positive young people exiting the exam room, keep up the effort!

We had our Senior School Head Girl/Boy hustings on Thursday morning. A big congratulations to our six candidates, standing up in front of the school is never easy and they all did brilliantly. A video of the candidate speeches can be watched below. The votes will be counted soon and we will know our new Head Girl or Boy early next week.

I am also really pleased to announce another two high quality appointments for September. Mrs Sarah Hall will join us as Head of History and Mr Alex Firth as teacher of Biology/Head of Science. This completes our Senior School teaching team and I am excited about the prospect of working with new colleagues with new ideas. All of our new staff represent the very best in their chosen subjects and have shown a real desire to come and work at Hollygirt.

And finally…it is Senior School exam week next week. Although it is important to revise it is also important to sleep. No one performs at their best when tired so early to bed!!!!

Have a great weekend. I hope the weather is sunny for the Royal Wedding (so that I can enjoy playing golf).

Deputy Head

Dear Parents,

Well done to our Year 3 and 4 tennis team who did brilliantly on Monday. Some great individual performances with many matches won. Thank you to Mrs Hidle for helping out and Miss Littlewood for supporting out children.

KS2 are busy revising this week for their tests next week. They are all working hard and are fully prepared for these. All that we ask of them is to do their best. I am sure they will be ready for the half term break by next Friday though!

On Monday, Mr Ockelford is taking some of the Year 3 children to a festival of sports: I am sure they will all enjoy themselves and I look forward to seeing the photos.

There are two residential trips organised to go to The Mill in June. Please make sure you have returned all forms and paperwork for this.

Hopefully the sun is here to stay for a while and so children need to have sun cream and hats in School.

Our annual Garden Party is on Saturday 30th June this year.  I am sure Mrs Wand will start asking for parents to help and donations to be sent in soon. In the meantime, if you do know anyone who could donate raffle prizes, please let us know.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy watching the Royal Wedding celebrations.

A Little Message from the Marketing Manager

We’ve had some fabulous feedback so far from parents about the Hollygirt mobile app. If you’d like to join the focus group and provide feedback on the app to help our decisions going forward, please email me at robertahutley@hollygirt.notts.sch.uk and I will send you the information to download the app.
