Message from the Deputy Head

Dear Parents,

There has been a lot of celebration and awareness this week in school.  Throughout the week we have been making extra connections to Careers in the curriculum as part of National Careers Week.  We opened the week with an assembly by Mrs Brown on International Women’s Day.  On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day with an assembly by Miss Hook.  This included images of some of the senior pupils when they were in Prep School dressed up for World Book Day.

On Wednesday evening we held a meeting for parents of those going on the Iceland trip at the end of term and on Thursday the Duke of Edinburgh Award information evening and it was fantastic to see the excitement from the pupils taking part in these opportunities.

We are two weeks away from our House competition week.  Pupils are preparing for their competition which includes delivering an assembly with Nottingham’s twinned city, Ghent, and a comedy skit that will be presented to the Prep School.

As I walk around school, I have been impressed by pupils’ attitudes to learning.  Staff are planning excellent learning experiences as you can see from Dr McKitterick’s lesson below…

I look forward to meeting you next week in person on Friday 15th March for the staff and parent curry night.

Have a lovely weekend.

Message from the Head of Prep

Good afternoon,

Another really busy week in the Prep School and next week may be even busier!  EYFS and KS1 were very excited this morning and are currently visiting Stonebridge City Farm.  I am sure they are having a fabulous time.

The World Book Day assemblies on Wednesday were brilliant.  Well done to all the children who took part and performed so confidently in front of quite a large audience.  Thank you to Mrs Keyworth for organising this and teachers for working so hard with the children.  Thank you to Mr Bowker for his thorough comments as he judged the performances.  And finally, thank you to parents for supporting this event.

Next week is Science Week and over the course of the week, the children in Prep will all be participating in fun Science experiments.  Mrs Wand will be launching the Science Fair projects for KS2 and for all Prep children, there will be a competition to design a poster.  More details will follow on these.

On Wednesday, Mrs Keyworth is taking some of the Year 5 and 6 children to take part in a High Fives tournament.  On Thursday, the team will challenge the teachers to a netball match. Having watched training sessions this week, the teachers are suitably nervous!

Also on Thursday, it is Maths Day and teachers are planning activities for their lessons on this day.  In the afternoon, Miss Seaton will be running auditions for Years 4, 5 and 6 for parts in her production of The Lion King which will be performed at the end of the Summer Term.  All of the Prep children will be involved and are starting to rehearse for this; the auditions on Thursday are just for the parts for the older children.  Audition packs will be emailed home today.

There will be a bake sale on Thursday to raise money for Red Nose Day.  On Friday, also for Red Nose Day, the Prep children will be taking part in a fun run in the afternoon.  Mrs Wand has sent the details of this out.

Next week we have one of our Year 10 pupils in Prep School for their Work Experience.

As we move towards Easter, I am sure many of you are looking to purchase new uniform.  Last year, we introduced a new summer dress and last year, children could wear either the red and white gingham dress or the new green and white flower print dress.  This year, it will just be the new green and white flower print dress which is available to but at Schoolwear Solutions.

Have a lovely weekend,
