Finally, it’s Friday and the end of January! There’s a bit of a celebratory feel here at Hollygirt after Year 7 Parents’ Evening which featured many positive reports. I did see one or two nervous faces during the night, but they mostly belonged to parents.
I’ve had lots of fantastic conversations with parents this week, at the Parents’ Evening and during my drop-in sessions this week. Thank you to those who were able to attend, for your welcoming words and warmth and giving me a little more history and information about the school and the parent experience. I am planning on a meet and greet session for Prep school parents and hope to communicate a date and time soon. I know that it is not possible for everyone to make the scheduled sessions; I hope to meet more parents at various parent events, but I am always happy to arrange a more convenient time to say hello if needed.
I hope to see a few more of you over the next couple of weeks as we have some Year 9 events on:
Year 9 Options Afternoon on Tuesday 4th February at 2pm, followed by the Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Wednesday 12th February, starting at 4pm.
While this half term is a short one compared to the Autumn term ones, January feels to have been a long month. The pupils were very excited to return on their return to school, but Christmas is filled with excitement and not always a restful time. The pupils seem to have settled back to the rhythm of school, and I hope they continue to work and behave in a manner of which they can be proud till the end of the half term. I have seen some good examples of pupil engagement in lessons this week, especially in science lessons where I’ve been lucky enough to see Year 11s creating electromagnets. I also managed to join in with the Just Dance lunchtime ECA, well, luckily for the pupils I didn’t join in with the dancing and the singing. I was struck by the cross-year group selection of pupils and the social interactions this allowed. I would encourage pupils to consider more social and active lunchtime ECAs where they can as a good way to burn off any excess energy, but also to reenergise their brains ready for afternoon lessons.
Ever onwards and Upwards
