Mrs Hutley (Headmistress) and Mrs Thornton (Head of English) would like to invite Hollygirt pupils aged 5 to 14 to take part in an exciting summer challenge.
Write a short story (500 words or less) inspired by the myths, legends and folklore surrounding English Heritage historic places.
To enter, you’ll need to:
1. Gather inspiration from stories of the past at an English Heritage site. Need some inspiration? Have a look at this interactive map to explore the myths, legends and folktales of England: https://mythsmap.english-heritage.org.uk/
2. Write a story inspired by your chosen site’s myths, legends and folklore in 500 words or less
3. Submit your story on English Heritage’s entry sheet which can be downloaded at https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/tellusastory and then email it to email@example.com. Make sure to send us a copy as well to firstname.lastname@example.org!
One lucky winner from each age category will win an illustration of their story, hand drawn by talented artist Clive Hicks-Jenkins, and their story will be professionally printed. They will also receive a year’s English Heritage membership for them and their family, and a hands-on expert-led learning workshop at one of our historical sites for them and their class!
Plus, one overall winner will get the top prize of a stay in one of English Heritage’s holiday cottages for them and their family!
