Dear Parents
Firstly, I would like to congratulate the Year 5 class. I took all the pupils to the Quad Kids Athletics competition at Harvey Haddon on Thursday. They all represented the school to the best of their ability and we had many special achievements. This involved all 14 pupils taking part in a sprint, 400m run, a throw and a jump and the event finished with a relay run. All the pupils did Hollygirt proud with special achievements in the 400m and long jump.
Miss Hill took a group of pupils to London on Monday to experience the Locals Love food tour. Pupils tried various foods including Sri Lankan at Spitalfields Market, Bangladeshi food, chocolate from Ghana and bagels. Thank you to Miss Hill for organising this trip, which the pupils thoroughly enjoyed and it was pleasing to hear the positive comments from the Tour Guide about our pupils. Miss Hill reported the following – ‘On Monday a mix of Year 7, Year 9 and Year 10 Food and Nutrition pupils enjoyed a food and historical tour in London in the Spitalfields and Brick Lane area. We also enjoyed learning about different historical facts from areas and architecture, ranging from being on a street where the Netflix series Enola Holmes was filmed to seeing a pub that Jack the Ripper frequented, and where the first ever council houses were built replacing a slum. We also visited China Town where pupils bought bubble tea and lots of treats from a Chinese supermarket and bakery. There was also a bit of shopping around Spitalfields Market itself. Brick Lane appealed to the artists among us with a lot of graffiti arts and a stop at a gallery shop where the owner started out by spraying broccoli different colours and planting them around Brick Lane! He exports his work all over the world and one of his paintings is being used in the new Fortnite game. He told the avid listeners that they must learn as much as they can while at school and then work hard to achieve! One of our GCSE Art pupils has since used this visit for her “gallery visit” component in her coursework!’
I would like to congratulate one of our Year 12 pupils who was nominated for the ISA Lexden Prize 2024 for ‘most remarkable Sixth Form student’.
On Monday, I launched Sports Day in assembly. Our Sports Day is on Monday 24th June and all parents are welcome. All pupils, from Senior and Prep, will be taking part in a track and field event. On Wednesday, the senior pupils selected their event and the Houses will be preparing over the coming weeks.
We had two successful Parents’ Evenings this week for Years 10 and 12 – thank you to all of the parents who attended.
Have a lovely weekend.
