JOB VACANCY: FRENCH TEACHER

We currently have one vacancy at Hollygirt School.

Part Time Subject Co-ordinator of French

September 2019

Following the retirement of Mrs Twomey after 13 years’ service to Hollygirt School, we have a vacancy for a Part Time Subject Co-ordinator of French.

Hollygirt School is a small independent school, educating children from the age of 3 up to 16.  We take a non-selective intake and have pupils of a wide ranging ability profile.  A small number of our pupils are on EHC plans, many have additional access arrangements for examinations.  We take a two form entry into Senior School.  Classes are small (maximum 15).

The MFL department comprises two teachers, both currently part- time. They share the responsibilities of Head of Department, one taking on the French responsibility and the other Spanish. Some language teaching in Years 5 and 6 is also possible: currently the post holder teaches Spanish and Latin at this level. Other languages could be considered.

We currently offer French and Spanish but ask the pupils to elect one or the other in Year 9 in preparation for GCSE, though subject option choices are not officially started until Year 10.

In recent years, we have given the pupils the opportunity to de-select language if they find their key subjects of Maths and English more challenging and from Autumn half term those who dis-apply study additional extra Maths and English in some/all of their language time.  This means the language groups are smaller than our usual classes (usually up to 10 pupils) and GCSE groups smaller still.  We have trialled in 2019-20 running a short course for 5 terms of Year 7 in ‘language awareness’.  We would be keen to identify an entry level or spoken language course to offer to our less able students to ensure some language learning is continued, and we frequently redevise the curriculum plan to flexibly meet the needs of the children in MFL.  We are not sure we have got the balance correct and would be interested in discussing various curriculum models with chosen candidate.

As a small school, duties and responsibilities are shared.  Additionally, all staff are expected to contribute to the extra-curricular programme.  The fully contractual obligations will be outlined on a pre-visit or at interview.

Hollygirt has its own salary scale: FTE £20,983 – £35,727 depending on experience.  There is a small additional payment for the administrative co-ordination of the subject.  The allocation is in the region of  0.6 FTE.

It is possible for potential applicants to make an appointment to look around the school before making an application or to speak to the Head about specific matters.  Please contact school on 0115 958 0596 or lucywilkins@hollygirt.notts.sch.uk.

If you wish to apply for this position, please return Application Forms Part I and II with the Diversity Monitoring Form and a covering letter by 3.00pm on Friday 10th May, addressed to Mrs P S Hutley (Headmistress).  Interviews will take place on Tuesday 14th May.  The position will commence at the start of the Autumn Term, from Monday 2nd September 2019.

We are happy to receive either electronic or paper applications. Please email any electronic applications to lucywilkins@hollygirt.notts.sch.uk .

All applicants will undergo a full DBS check.
