Trustee Recruitment

We are currently looking for additional Trustees for our Board of Trustees, to take up appointment from September 2018, with openings for eventual Chair and Vice Chair positions.

Hollygirt School Trustees serve in a threefold capacity as:

  • Trustees of the charity
  • Directors of the company
  • Governors of the school

Trustees usually serve for a period of up to 5 years.

Board members are usually involved in one or more committees and take on various key responsibilities. All attend full board meetings. Key responsibilities include safeguarding; health and safety; overseeing the single central register; and other areas of compliance including risk assessment.

There is usually one full board meeting and one meeting of each committee each term. Additionally, there is a full training/strategy day in the Summer Term.

Currently there are three committees: Finance and General Purposes (F&GP); Curriculum, Pupils and Personnel; and Marketing and Admissions. The latter two usually run together.

Meetings are commonly held from 4.00pm to 6.00pm (occasionally lasting longer) or 8.00am to 10.00am. These meeting times are defined via negotiation of Trustees’ availabilities. Dates are suggested in the late Summer Term for the academic year ahead.

Trustees are welcome into school at any time to peruse files, visit classes, meet the staff or management, or for any other purpose. Attendance is expected at the school’s annual Prize Giving (October) and Carol Service (December).

Additional attendances are welcome at Open Days, concerts and shows, sports days, or other school events.

There are currently eight members of the Board.

We have spaces for volunteers to serve on the Board from the following particular backgrounds: senior education specialist; law; HR; health and safety and compliance, but other skills are also welcome.

All Trustees are subject to a full DBS check and other recruitment checks.

Each Trustee should understand and support the ethos of our small independent school.
