Mathematics is a core subject and we encourage our pupils to enjoy a varied approach to learning using books, games and interactive puzzles.
Pupils are taught in small sets according to their ability which enables us to vary the pace of the lesson, extending the more able and giving more individual help to those who require it. Books are always marked and sometimes we mark work with the pupils, in order to check understanding.
Pupils are encouraged to ask for extra help if they are unsure of any concepts being studied. We also hold two weekly Maths Clinics, where pupils are free to drop in and access individual help.
During the year we enter pupils for the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge and we also take a team of pupils to compete in the Team Challenge. Some of our Year 11 spent a day at The University of Nottingham where they took part in a GCSE ‘A/A* Revision Day’.
We enter our pupils for Edexcel GCSE Mathematics in year 11 and some pupils study AQA GCSE Statistics as an additional subject.
